You’ll be surprised what you can do with your RIGHT HAND if you’re LEFT HANDED and your LEFT HAND if you’re RIGHT HANDED!!!

…Don’t give up and don’t take “it’s not working right” for an answer

Okay so, I had a recently had a relapse and could not use my right side and of course I am right handed. So, I could barely use silverware without dropping food everywhere, couldn't brush my teeth or my hair, you can just imagine the other things I couldn't do. (lol) But dear God the worst part… I couldn't do my makeup!!!

This relapse lasted a while. (I still have not fully recovered) One day I just got fed up! I was tired of looking “sick” and I decided, “I’m doing my makeup today!” and I did it entirely with my left hand!! It was then that I realized that I could teach myself to be ambidextrous! I practiced my makeup with my left hand daily. Though it wasn't my best work the first couple times; it was decent. I taught myself to write with my left hand (sloppy but legible), brush my teeth with my left hand, eat and those other things I mentioned that you imagine.

My point is, never take no for an answer. You have MS. Don’t let MS have you. The human body is amazing! Don’t underestimate what it is capable of. Though you may have plaque on your brain, my doctor informed me that in many cases, your body will figure out another way of communicating what you are trying to do. I Know MS affects everyone differently but for those of you who have trouble with your hands and such, this is for you.

Some of the things I did to try to teach myself to be ambidextrous were writing my alphabet, doing more things with my left hand, and I plan to buy one of those tracing alphabet and shapes books for kids. Basically everything I did to learn how to use my hand I use naturally.
Now I can do a lot of things with my left hand that I couldn't do before! Give it a try and comment below! Tell me about your success!

Adjustments ;)
If you’re going to limp… limp in style!

Okay so if you know what MS is; you know that wearing heels can be a bit of a challenge at times. As ladies, a lot of you probably love or loved “hot heels”. Well I’ve got news for you; flats can be hot too! I recently had a very severe relapse preventing me from wearing my dearly beloved heels. (I couldn't walk or even stand by myself) I still had to have something on my feet though. I got tired and a little depressed with my boring, old, scuffed up boots and flats. So I purchased a pair of Steve Madden "Conncord" Rhinestone Smoking Flats.

Fabulous Steve Madden Flats!

Not only are the shoes absolutely fabulous, but it gave my spirits a great lift! Often times, when going through a relapse, a girl can get pretty down on herself. In those times, do something for yourself that makes you feel good. For me, this time, it was finding a “pump” alternative. Don’t think that just because you are limping, riding, or need assistance that you can’t look good doing it!

A Little more about me, my dance career and MS:

Dance exercise is more than a work out for me. To others I may look like a girl that is way too into the class and that I’m trying to actually perform a dance concert or something. But in actuality it is a reminder of where I have been and where I am now. In high school & college I danced and absolutely loved it! It was fun; it kept me in shape and kept me rounded.
In 2010 I had a rude awakening. I woke up one morning unable to walk, write, talk, drive, or dance. After going to the emergency room I was sent to a neurologist, the fabulous Doctor Claudill Miller of the Neurology Consultants of Montgomery. It was there that I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was traumatized(!)…from dancing; to disabled in the blink of an eye. No more dance, no more cheer, no more heels. What was I going to do with myself? Once the tests were done I was transferred to another amazing neurologist, Dr Sarah Shashy, also of the Neurology Consultants of Montgomery. By this time I’d regained most of my motor skills but was scared to dance.

I thought that life after MS had no jamming and I would never dance again. But then Dr. Shashy suggested that I try Zumba! So what did I do? I went to Zumba and jammed out! Since I figured out that MS won't stop my groove I have gone on to be a part of the Eclectic Dance Company at Alabama State University and volunteer with McKee Jr High School’s dance line.

So you see why it is more than a fun work out for me! Dance class at Born to Dance Studio with Stacy is so fun! I get my Beyonce fix, my old school bump and a little sexy every now and then! I love learning new styles of dance and with Stacy's classes you with get so many different types.

If you have multiple sclerosis there are several forms of exercise you can do.
Of course you should discuss it with your doctor first but I find Zumba great because there are really no specific movements that you have to do. Having MS, specific can be pretty tiricky. In the Zumba class as long as you do "something" like the moves, you still look like your right! You won't feel left out or like you stand out because everyone looks so crazy wild and free everybody in the class looks like they've got something wrong with them anyway! If you have MS not moving is one of the worst things you can do. If you are able Find a local gym or dance studio and get out there and groove!
